Focused Psychological Services for Clients & Lawyers

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

Rumi, Persian poet (1207 – 1273)

If you are an adolescent or adult male whose sexual behaviour conflicts with the law:

When you receive a disposition in court for sexual offending, you may feel demoralized, overwhelmed, or scared. Thinking of your future might elicit anxiety or a sense of hopelessness. We have helped hundreds of youths and men who experienced these tough emotions in response to dispositions for their sexually abusive behaviour. We are motivated to help you cope effectively and build a satisfying, law-abiding lifestyle while building on your strengths. The outcome of your work with our professional assistance could include:

  • Enhanced self-esteem
  • Improvement in your ability to meet your needs without criminal behaviour
  • More satisfying relationships
  • Successful completion of your disposition.

Whatever your concerns may be at this challenging time, we are here to assist.

If you are a lawyer representing a client whose sexual behaviour conflicts with the law:

You understand the legislation supportive of the rehabilitation of adolescents and adult males who sexually offend. At Focused Psychological Services, we applaud your efforts to make available to your clients the most effective interventions that promote public safety and rehabilitation. We are here to help.

We focus our consultation, assessment, and treatment services on clients whose criminal charges are disposed, however, prior to this, planning is obviously required. If you have a client who is agreeable to intervention and for whom the sentencing principle of rehabilitation is primary, please call us to explore how we can assist.

We can also help to examine proposed supervisors in accordance with orders of prohibition, under Section 161.1(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Our professional reports can be used to aid judicial decisions on the suitability of candidates.

Our primary therapist, Diane Chisholm, has served as an expert witness in criminal trials, judicial reviews, and child protection proceedings.
