Guiding Principles of Focused Psychological Services

Vision:

To create a safer society by fostering the growth of clients and those striving to assist them.

Our Purpose:

We empower correctional, social services, and legal professionals to respond effectively to the sexual abusive behaviours of their clients. We empower adolescents and adults, whose sexual behaviour brought them into conflict with the law, to meet their needs, live law-abiding lifestyles, and become self-supporting.

Values: SUCCESS STARTS HERE.

Our values guide the way we work with our partners and customers. We inspire professionals to gain skills and feel confident in helping adolescents and men whose behaviour was sexually abusive. We inspire people whose sexual behaviour brought them into conflict with the law to live law-abiding and self-supporting lifestyles in ways that align with their values and cultures.

Our core values are:

  • RESPECT – We uphold the inherent dignity of all peoples. Informed consent is the cornerstone of our practice because this safeguards customers’ right to autonomy. Shaming is never used to promote change. We encourage development based on the strengths of clients and staff.
  • DISCRETION – We use the highest levels of security to protect clients’ data and confidentiality within the bounds of the law. We collaborate with customers to protect their confidentiality.
  • INTEGRITY – We lead by example. Honesty is at the forefront of our practice. Our psychological practices are consistent with the ethical guidelines and professional standards of the: Canadian Psychological Association, Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse, College of Psychologists of Ontario, American Psychological Association, and the International Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders.
  • DEPENDABLE – We focus on the needs of our customers, based on their input and evidence-based research in forensic psychology.
  • ACCOUNTABILITY – We accept responsibility for our thoughts, feelings, and actions. We expect the same from our clients whose sexual behaviour brought them into conflict with the law. Accountability fosters maturity.
  • QUALITY – We provide guidance and reports that are clear, concise, and actionable.
  • CONTINUOUS LEARNING – We regard learning as an ongoing process and our ethical obligation. The research on the prevention and treatment of sexual abuse is continually evolving. Our responsibility and commitment is to be informed.

We are here to support the growth of clients toward a law-abiding lifestyle using a strength-based approach.
